a little about the title, multiplicity:
No other term seems to fit me better. Many of the blogs I follow are centered on just one topic, and mine may end up there, too. But for now, this won't be. From mindfulness to racial and socioeconomic equality to step parenting to education, I write about many things. All of them add up to the various forms, features, and parts of who I am.
a little about me (stacie nielsen bortel):
I began my writing career in fourth grade when my first essay was published in the local paper. It was about squirrels and parks and it included my school picture, bad hair day and all.
In spite of the embarrassing photo, seeing my essay in print gave me enough of a taste of writing to fuel a life-long passion. I grew in my writing style, got my curly hair under control, and became a teacher.
I was an adjunct instructor and a high school English teacher, and for a few crazy years, I was both at the same time — it wasn't good for stress management, sleep, or a social life, but I have some great stories. I spent almost a decade in the classroom; nothing has had more impact on me than those years.
I'm now a full-time freelance writer and editor (www.nielsenbortel.com). I live in Minneapolis with my husband and am a proud stepmom of two wonderful children.
